Now Accepting Submissions for love notes for us: An Anthology of writings, images, stories and lessons by and for the woman, trans, and non-binary Black organizer whose love centers a soft and r/evolutionary lens.

Inspired by THE Toni Cade’s The Black Woman: An Anthology, edited in 1970 and developed in response to the understanding that “today America is witnessing two great human revolutions.” That statement still rings true.

Today, we are continuing to witness multiple revolutions: that of being Black and of being a gendered and/or sexualized minority whose lived experiences forces ongoing struggle against cishetero-capitalist-patriarchy. This revolution exists in ongoing dialogue with what is perhaps the greatest human revolution there is -- love. In the midst of these revolutions esteemed cultural workers like Toni Cade and Maya Angelou lived -- not just as writers -- but as organizers. and Black women. and caretakers. and queer people. They insisted on their art living outside of their heads and off the pages of books -- yet still made phenomenal impacts with their words.

love notes for us is excited to invite submissions of short stories, recipes, poetry, essays, creative nonfiction, comic strips, memoir chapters, fables, parables, photography and artwork by “gendered minorities” (i.e. Black people who are  women, trans, non-binary, two-spirit, and more) that expand our understanding of love in action. We encourage themes which uplift softness, femininity, romance, grief, transformation, collectivism, caretaking, healing & spirituality and offer various expressions of the self-determined and sovereign-bodied experiences of those who suffer most under cishetero-capitalist-patriarchy.
